Arbitration & ADR

Arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution save both time and money - and let you entrust the dispute to arbitrators with deep knowledge of the industry, from construction to finance.

Negotiations at a table - dispute resolution

I represent clients in Latvian and foreign arbitration courts and other ADR proceedings - from the ICC in Paris and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Institute to ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL rules and disputes under the ICSID Convention.

Arbitrator since 2003

Since 2003 I have been an expert of the ICSID Convention's Group of Arbitrators approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia and an arbitrator at the European International Arbitration Court. I have repeatedly been appointed arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc tribunals.

Lecturer and author

For more than ten years I have taught arbitration and alternative dispute resolution at the University of Latvia. I am an author of scientific publications and a doctoral student at the University of Latvia.

Frequently asked questions

How does arbitration differ from a state court?
The process is usually faster and cheaper, and the parties themselves choose arbitrators who specialise in the relevant industry - for example construction, real estate, shipping or finance.
Does arbitration have to be agreed in the contract?
Usually yes - parties most often provide for arbitration in a contract clause. I help choose the most suitable arbitration court and word the clause correctly.
